Brian McConnell has made it his mission to combine the best of the classical and jazz worlds.
Most flute players study and play exclusively in classical music contexts. Most ‘jazz flute players’ focus on saxophone and play the flute as a second or third option. For McConnell, the flute has always been job-one. He has mastered a flute sound as big and pure as the classical flute players, and applied it to the music and phrasing of the jazz tradition.
Brian is joined in his group by one of the Maritimes' most sought-after bassists, Danny Parker. Danny is in regular demand in Halifax as a "first call" sideman. He has also appeared at jazz festivals in Halifax, Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto and at the Vancouver Folk Festival, the Mariposa Folk Festival and Toronto's Ashkenaz Festival.
Also on board is guitarist George Hebert who has toured Canada, the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, playing in places like Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Royal Albert Hall, London Palladium and Centennial Hall in Monte Carlo. Hebert has recorded with, among many others, Anne Murray, John Allan Cameron, Dutch Mason and Bruce Guthro.
