Murphy's Community Centre
Outdoor Stage
Groove Company is a six piece band featuring a horn line and a roster of veteran Island musicians including three former members of the Jive Kings. The band covers a lot of musical territory, including jazz, R&B, soul, pop, rock and funk.
Groove Company's music features highly original arrangements often combining tunes from opposite ends of the musical universe. Expect to hear some new approaches to familiar tunes.. like Joe Zawinul's "Birdland" combined with Van Morrison's "Brown-Eyed Girl". Or Jaco Pastorius' "The Chicken" mashed up with The Beatles' "Lady Madonna".
Band members are Perry Williams (vocals, guitar, arranger), Deryl Gallant (bass), Alan White (drums), Jon MacInnis (sax), Peter Bevan-Baker (trumpet) and Doug Millington (trombone).
After the Gold Cup & Saucer Parade (featuring the stunning new Jazz & Blues float!) head down to Murphy's Community Centre to catch Groove Company (and the Mellotones) for a free outdoor concert
full of musical surprises.
