12:15 Free Workshop

8PM Concert (Oliver Jones Trio)

Presented by The Guardian

Oliver Jones has been a Canadian musical institution for decades.  He is a frequent opening artist and/or closing-gala guest at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, and no wonder.  With four Junos(1990, 2007) amid ten nominations, a Governor-General's Performing Arts Award for lifetime artistic achievement, four Félix Awards, half dozen honourary degrees and an Order of Canada, Oliver Jones is acknowledged as one of Canada's greatest gifts to the piano.
Over the course of a six-decade career, Oliver Jones has produced 20 albums, toured extensively world-wide, and worked with sidemen the likes of Ray Brown, Clark Terry and Ed Thigpen.
In 2005 Oliver Jones emerged from semi-retirement to make a succession of recordings, including "One More Time", a project which in Oliver's typically supportive fashion,  features a collection of young up-and-coming Canadian musicians.
Oliver's 2007 recording, "Second Time Around", with drummer Jim Doxas and bassist Eric Lagacé, won the Juno Award for Best Mainstream Jazz Recording.  It is this award-winning trio which will perform at this year's festival in the acoustically perfect St. Paul's Anglican Church.

In addition to his evening concert, Mr.  Jones will take part in our free Chris Driscoll Memorial Workshop series immediately following the Gold Cup Parade in St. Paul's Anglican Church.

Oliver Jones' free workshop is presented by Mark's Work Wearhouse.
