(Following Gold Cup Parade)
Victoria Row FREE Stage
Groove Company is a collection of six PEI's jazz musicians, all of whom operate on the same basic assumption: just because a tune is popular and not jazz doesn't necessarily mean it's not worth playing. The band has been gigging for a couple of years now and is steadily developing a following of like-minded music fans who enjoy listening to original horn arrangements and dancing to tunes such as "Signed, Sealed, Delivered", "Soul Deep" and "Fly Like An Eagle". The band features Perry Williams' unique arrangements combining tunes in the most unlikely fashion, as in Lady Madonna/The Chicken, or Brown-Eyed Girl/Birdland. Or how about the Doobie Brothers' "Long Train Running" mashed up with a funk chart by the Cuban group Beuena Fe? It's all possible, indeed highly likely, when Groove Company takes to the free stage on Victoria Row after the Gold Cup Parade.
Groove Company is Perry Williams (guitar, vocals) Deryl Gallant (bass), Alan White (drums), Jon MacInnis (Tenor sax), Peter Bevan-Baker (trumpet) and Doug Millington (trombone).
